PCES recognizes November Students of the Month

GUILFORD — More than a dozen pupils in grades 5-8 at Piscataquis Community Elementary School are November Students of the Month. The month’s honorees were presented with certificates in front of their peers and teachers during an assembly in the cafeteria to start the day on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Students of the Month are selected by their teachers for criteria such as outstanding citizenship and academic performance. Principal Anita Wright told the audience that some of the recipients are “working harder and being more on task,” “goes out of their way to help their peers,” “looks for opportunities to help around the classroom,” and “volunteers to pass out iPads and notebooks and stacks chairs at the end of the day.”

The newest Students of the Month at PCES include fifth-graders Hailey Chambers, Olivia Goodwin and Desirae Maloon; Brady Ball and Molly Goodwin representing grade 6; grade 7 honorees Jordan Brown, Gavin Chase and Gabby Koscielny; and eighth-graders Braylin Bilodeau, Scott Chadbourne, Zachariah Demmer and Beau Talbot.

The morning meeting included the recognition of PCES “Upstanders,” students who have stood up for their peers and/or others over the previous few weeks. The Upstanders were presented with a personalized boomerang made by Guidance Director Jason Schriver, signifying that good deeds come back.

Schriver said fifth-grader Cooper Carson and grade 8 students Karlie Ellis, Connor Hamlin and Beau Talbot each were honored “for going above and beyond and just helping in general.
