Doore named PRYMCA Volunteer of the Year

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The board of directors of the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, staff and community members gathered at the PRYMCA Oct. 22 to celebrate another year of service in Piscataquis County during the organization’s annual meeting. Executive Director Janna Wasel and President of the Board of Directors Bill Rayfield welcomed meeting attendees and recognized the members of the board and PRYMCA staff in attendance.

The meeting began with recognition of the 2019 Piscataquis Regional YMCA Volunteer of the Year, Maureen Doore. In speaking of Doore’s contributions to the PRYMCA Membership Manager Nanette Redmond said, “Maureen is a fixture at our welcome center and in our morning aquatics class where she encourages participants new and old and even steps in to lead the class when called upon. Whether having coffee at the welcome center or just visiting she greets everyone who comes in and always receives a heartfelt welcome from several of our early learning children. We all agree Maureen has been an encouragement each of us here at the Y and supports us in all we do, contributing where she can and always cheering us on, whatever we’re doing.”

Doore has been a member for over 30 years. She shared that both of her children served as swim instructors at the PRYMCA and commented on the positive impact the Y has had on her life and the lives of her family members.

In the last several years, the PRYMCA has seen its membership grow to over 1,100 and has increased its programming to include new fitness classes, personal training, Water Wellness classes and a new masters swim team for adults.

“In Piscataquis County the Y is more than a gym, it’s a place of community,” Wasel said. “Our staff work every day to meet the needs of our community and ensure that everyone has the tools they need to reach their full potential — whether that’s through a swimming lesson, personal training, a fitness class, or afterschool care — we’re here for you and your family.”
