Dexter boys finish fourth at conference X-C meet

SEARSPORT — The Dexter Regional High School boys cross country team finished in fourth place among 12 Class C schools at the 2019 Penobscot Valley Conference championships on October 19 at Searsport District High School. The Tigers ended the meet with a score of 152 points.

Dexter freshman Payson Rienhardt led his team by placing sixth among a field of 74 runners. He covered the 5K course in a time of 19 minutes, 30.36 seconds.

The other four point-scorers were junior Michael Gadwah, who was 23rd at 21:21.87; sophomore Nickolas Gallighan, 28th at 21:52.58; sophomore Miles Gadwah, 42nd at 23:41.92; and senior Augustus Irwin, 58th at 27:07.46. Freshman David Race also ran, coming in 65th at 28:54.59.

Foxcroft Academy came in seventh among the Class C boys teams with 187 points. Junior Joseph Keenan finished 20th at 20:58.67.

The other runners having a hand in the points were junior Krystofer Downing, 36th at 23:12.29; junior Caleb Fockens, 40th at 23:32.74; sophomore Pablo Delgado, 41st at 23:32.88; and sophomore Aiden Currie, 55th at 26:30.21. Freshman Joseph Nelson came in 62nd with a time of 28:12.04.

Orono High School won the Class C title with 35 points. George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill came in second with 46 points and placing third was Bucksport High School at 102 points.

Four Foxcroft girls ran in their Class C race. Pony junior Kaylee Durgin was 23rd among 45 entrants with her time of 28:53.90.

Sophomore Makayla Landry placed 32nd at 31:17.02, sophomore Olivia McCorrison was 33rd at 32:21.02 and senior Yeung Tsz Yu came in 34th at 32:26.70.

Orono won the girls Class C championship with a score of 18 points. The Houlton High School/Greater Houlton Christian Academy squad was second at 47 points and placing third was Narraguagus High School of Harrington with 72 points.

George Stevens freshman Thea Crowley had the race’s top time at 21:08.73.
