Ponies win vs. Hermon

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Foxcroft Academy boys soccer team defeated Hermon 5-2 on Sept. 30. In a matchup of Class B North teams, both squads came to battle.

The Ponies stroke first when senior Shadane Hamilton received a long pass from classmate Sam Harmon-Weeks. Hamilton was able to get into the keeper’s box and score five minutes into the game.

GROUNDING THE HAWKS — Senior Shadane Hamilton led the attack for the Ponies during a Sept. 30 contest vs. Hermon. Hamilton scored three goals in Foxcroft’s 5-2 victory.

Foxcroft continued the attacked when senior Rico Ayala intercepted a pass from a Hawks player and was able led a break away from the left side of the field. Then he crossed the ball where he found Hamilton, he was able to beat one defender and strike the ball past the Hermon keeper. This gave the Ponies a quick 2-0 lead.

The Hawks quickly countered an attack and was able to score three minutes later. With five minutes left to play in the half, Pony sophomore Michael Wang broke free and streaked down the left side of the field. Feeling the pressure coming from the Hawks defense he was able to cut the ball back to his right and cross the ball to a wide open Jacob Raynes. The senior midfielder was able to receive the pass and one timed it into the back of the net to give Foxcroft a 3-1 lead at halftime.

In the second half the Ponies continued with the team’s attack. Foxcroft was able to get many opportunities via 10 corners. At the 34-minute mark Harmon-Weeks placed the comer kick to the far side post where he found Hamilton. Hamilton headed the ball into the net for a 4-1 lead.

At the 31 minutes Foxcroft had another corner kick. Again it was Harmon-Weeks assisting, this time it was junior Jahime Carghill scoring and giving Foxcroft a 5-1 lead.

Hermon never gave up and continued to fight. At the 25-minute mark, Hermon received a penalty kick and was able to convert on it to cut the lead 5-2. Hermon gained momentum and continued with its attack.

This time with 10 minutes left to play, the Hawks received another penalty kick. Foxcroft keeper junior Mike Alvarez rose to the challenge this time. He was able to time the kick and make an amazing save when dove to his left and snatched the ball. This stopped all the momentum Hermon had and sealed the victory for the Ponies 5-2.
