NAMI Depression and Anxiety Secrets series at The Commons

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. at The Commons at Central Hall, NAMI Piscataquis County will present the first in the Depression and Anxiety Secrets series entitled “SSRIs, Antidepressants, and Alternative Remedies: Understanding Your Options.”

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors may help initially with symptoms for the short-term, but they “can create long-term chronic refractory depression,” states Dr. Daniel Binus, MD, Psychiatrist, founder of Beautiful Mind Medical in Auburn, California.

Dr. Binus explains that antipsychotic medications make the brain “super sensitive to dopamine causing more chronic episodes of psychosis.” Antipsychotics and antidepressants can cause apathy, mental processing difficulties, memory problems and frontal lobe function impairment leading to illogical thinking and poor self-control.

Dr. Rodger Murphree, DC, CNS, who practices orthomolecular medicine in Birmingham Alabama, notes that Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors don’t make serotonin, but they are designed to help retain serotonin. The trouble is that if there is little to no serotonin in the body, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors are useless. “Seventy percent of the time an antidepressant is no better than a sugar pill, no better than a placebo.” These medications often stop working due to down regulation or the disappearance of the medication receptor sites.

Side effects of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors include insomnia, social problems, nausea, dizziness and suicidal thoughts. Benzodiazepines, such as valium and xanax, can cause impulsivity and the inability to make prudent decisions, sometimes leading to violent acts.

Working, at first, perhaps, with medications and then beyond them, provides a more holistic and overall better health effect. For instance, a look at nutrition, including amino acids, B vitamins, magnesium and vitamin C, which are all needed to make neurotransmitter brain chemicals and hormones for mood control, sleep and digestion, may lead to complete recovery.

In this informative video presentation, with some surprising protocols to help yourself or a loved one, you can learn about (1) a self-assessment questionnaire to discern neurotransmitter deficiencies (2) how to heal from anxiety and depression using supplements to address neurotransmitter deficiencies and (3) the commonly overlooked diseases cause anxiety and depression. You can also hear from a formerly suicidal patient who completely recovered from lifelong depression at Dr. Neil Nedley’s (MD) Depression and Recovery Clinic in Weimar, California, using comprehensive approaches for frontal lobe healing featuring lifestyle changes and other holistic treatments focusing on the root causes of depression and anxiety.
