Hurd Jr. served as parade marshal for the 2019 Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming parade on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 3, a “Home on the Range -- Take 2” procession rescheduled due to rain one year prior. A farmer his whole life, Hurd bought his first farm on the Shaw Road in 1970 before buying a farm on the Bear Hill Road where he still milks cows today with his son Daniel and grandson Brandon Weston. Hurd has been a familiar face for many years at the Piscataquis Valley Fair, supplying cows for the agricultural area and helping out in the livestock barns. He could be seen cheering on his daughter Jo Hurd Weston during livestock shows and competitions and continues today cheering on his grandchildren Brandon and Brooke Weston.

HOWARD KESSELI MEMORIAL AWARD — The float for the Hibbard Skilled Nursing Center earned the Howard Kesseli Memorial Award for the “Home on the Range –Take 2” Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming parade on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 3. After last year’s “Home on the Range”-themed procession was rained out, the Westen motif was brought back with a slightly revised name for 2019.

Piscataquis Valley Fair

BEST NON-PROFIT — The Piscataquis Valley Fair earned the Best Non-Profit (Traveling Trophy) honor during Saturday morning’s Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming parade. The Best Antique Unit honors went to the Olds 442 and Mayo Regional Hospital earned Judges’ Choice recognition.

BEST BUSINESS — Dover True Value won the Best Business (Traveling Trophy) honor during the 2019 Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming parade, also earning the honor during the last procession in 2017.
