Robshaw, Cummings combine to claim three conference track titles

Penquis Valley High School senior Cymeria Robshaw won the 100-meter dash and triple jump and she finished as the long jump runner-up during the 2019 Penobscot Valley Conference Small School Outdoor Track & Field Championship on May 24 at Bucksport High School.

Robshaw — who will continue her track career at Division I College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and in the Patriot League — accounted for 28 of the Patriots’ 33 points, which was good for sixth place among a dozen schools recording points at the meet. She won the triple jump for the second year in a row and claimed her third consecutive title in the 100.

In the 100-meter finals, Robshaw had the day’s best time at 13.05 seconds. She bested second place by .28 seconds in the event final.

A distance of 35 feet, 10.5 inches gave Robshaw the triple jump conference crown. Her distance was more than 4-06 better than the 31-04 for Orono High School junior Maggie Coutts.

In the long jump, Robshaw landed in the dirt at a distance of 17-06.25. She trailed only the new conference record of 17-10.75 for Orono senior Camille Kohtala. Kohtala, who will compete for the University of Alabama in the Southeast Conference, surpassed the old PVC mark of 17-07.75 for Bangor High School’s Grace MacLean set in 2012.

Penquis senior Camryn Rolfe scored her team’s other five points.

Rolfe placed fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 6:07.35. Rolfe also came in sixth in the 800 at 2:44.92.

The girls from Dexter Regional High School picked up 22 points to finish ninth at the PVC meet as senior Danielle Cummings scored all her team’s points.

Cummings won the 200 with a time of 27.47 seconds. She bested Central High School of Corinth junior Jaeden Viani by nearly 1.4 seconds.

In the 100, Cummings came in second with a time of 13.33 seconds. She finished fourth in the long jump at a distance of 15-00.25.

Greenville High School’s four points tied the Bangor Christian School for 11th place at Bucksport.

Laker junior Bianca Breton placed fourth in the javelin with a throw measuring 90-06.

Orono claimed the girls team championship by scoring 173 points. Caribou High School came in second at 136 points and in third place was Central with 54 points.

In the boys’ meet Greenville had the highest finish among local teams with 11 points, tying Houlton High School for ninth place among 14 squads picking up points.

Junior Ben Baldwin finished as the 200-meter runner-up with his sprint of 23.77 seconds. He trailed only the time of 23.13 seconds for Bucksport High School senior Carter Tolmasoff. Baldwin was also fifth in the 100 at 12.03 seconds.

Laker junior Jack Morehouse placed sixth in the javelin at a distance of 130-05.

The Dexter boys came in 11th in the team standings by scoring eight points.

Tiger senior Dillion Allen finished third in the long jump with a distance of 18-11.75. Allen also anchored the fifth-place 4×400 relay. Freshman Cameron Allen, junior Ryan Boisvert, senior Chris Roderka and Dillion Allen combined for a time of 3:57.58.

Penquis had one point to tie Searsport District High School for 13th place.

Sophomore Will Waterhouse had the Patriots’ point with his sixth-place performance of 12.28 seconds in the 100.

Caribou claimed the boys’ championship with 176 points, followed by 133 for Orono and Washington Academy of East Machias in third place with a score of 55 points.

On May 25 Foxcroft Academy traveled to Old Town High School for the PVC Large School championships.

The Pony boys scored six points to finish 10th among a field of 10 schools.

Freshman Jacob Reed came in third in the high jump. He cleared the bar at a setting of 5-08.

Bangor won the boys’ title with 161 points, Hampden Academy came in second at 93 points and Old Town was third at 68 points.
