Monson Public Library news

MONSON — The Monson Public Library is gearing up for an exciting summer. The library will be changing its hours of operation starting Saturday, June 1. The new hours will be Tuesday 12:30–4:30 p.m., Thursday 2:30–6:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is located at the Monson Arts Center, 35 Greenville Road.

On Saturday, June 1, as part of “Nosin Round Monson” a day to visit open houses of over 30 participating Monson businesses and organizations, the library will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come see the new space, get a library card if you haven’t one already, see what services are provided and let the library know your ideas about what more you would like the library to offer you and the community.

Get your “Nosin Round Monson” passport stamped at the library and bring it to the Turning Page Farm where it can be exchanged for a free raffle ticket. There are many wonderful raffle prizes donated by local businesses. The drawing will be at the farm at 5:30 p.m. that day and you must be present to win.

The library’s book club will resume on Monday, June 17 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and will meet on the third Monday of each month thereafter. The June book selection is “Educated” by Tara Westover. Copies of the book are available at the library. New members are always welcome. Please call the library at 997-3476 if interested in joining or if you have questions.

Storytime begins Saturday, June 22. Books will be read every Saturday morning from 10– 11 a.m. for children ages 2–7 accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Monson Writers Alliance will be meeting weekly at the library on Tuesdays from 4:30–6 p.m. beginning June 4. This is a working group of central Maine writers committed to mutual support and encouragement of its members as they increase and hone their skills and support one another in their quest to better their craft. New members are welcome. If interested in joining or for additional information, please contact Kevin Tremblay at 270-1744.

Additional programs are currently in the planning stages. These include a story/activity time for older children, to be scheduled on Saturday mornings, as well as a monthly series of authors/presentations.
