PCES schedules events for May

GUILFORD — Students and staff of Piscataquis Community Elementary School recently announced several public events of interest to families and the community.

On Wednesday, May 15 the school hosts an evening of art and music with an exhibit of student art opening at 4:30 p.m., followed by the traditional spring concert at 5:30 p.m. The concert will consist of familiar songs about friendship and relationships. Many of the songs are classic songs from popular music. There will be a ukulele band made up of fourth-, fifth- and sixth- graders a short solo sung by a talented kindergartner will be featured Since this is also National Library Week, the book fair in the library will be open during the art exhibit.

On Thursday, May 23 grade 5 students will perform the play “Liar, Liar — Pants on Fire” about a boy who gets into trouble with his teachers and classmates because he always exaggerates the truth. The play uses figurative language to “teach him a lesson” and will open at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The kids are expecting a million people.

On Thursday, May 30 Lt. Jamie Kane of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department conducts the graduation ceremony for fifth-graders who have completed the DARE program. In addition to certificates and accolades, the program will include essays written by a representative of each participating class and a big opportunity to be proud of the kids.
