SeDoMoCha shines the spotlight on outstanding students

COMMUNICATING STUDENTS IN THE SPOTLIGHT — During an April 12 assembly 11 pupils at the SeDoMoCha School in Dover-Foxcroft were recognized as this month’s Students in the Spotlight for demonstrating how they are effective communicators, the positive attribute or characteristic chosen for this month from the Habits of Mind. Grade 6 science teacher Jeffrey Dale welcomed family and friends of the 11 newest Students in the Spotlight — most of whom did not know these guests were invited. “Thank you for joining us today as we celebrate our Students in the Spotlight, recognized for demonstrating this month’s Habits of the Mind,” he said.

The April theme is “Communicating with Clarity and Precision” or “Being an Effective Communicator.” Key points include speaking and writing with accuracy, avoiding exaggeration and avoiding over-simplifying or leaving things out.

Each Student in the Spotlight was called up by grade to receive a certificate and water bottle from their teachers as the educators told the audience how the pupils earned the honor, such as always taking part in class discussions, providing clear and concise answers, going above and beyond writing requirements and more.

The 11 students are Khloe Tardy, kindergarten; Colton Taylor, grade 1; Luci Bisson, grade 2; Ava Dunton, grade 3; Lily Taylor, grade 4; Jaedon Haack, elementary unified arts; Natalie Stutzman, grade 5; Alexandrea Lyford, grade 6; Kemsley Marsters, grade 7; Ayda Holyoke, grade 8; and Jackson Smith, middle school unified arts.

“Next month the Habit of Mind being demonstrated is continuous learning,” Dale said. He said this concept can mean different things to different people and “whether you’re 5 or 95 there is always opportunity for continuous learning.”
