Center Theatre starts drama camp in Monson

The Center Theatre recently announced that registration is open for all the 2019 drama camps, including a new two-week drama camp being offered in Monson. The Theatre is also offering an April vacation camp at Central Hall in Dover-Foxcroft as well as the two classic drama camps taking place at the East Sangerville Grange.

Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive director, said the idea for a Monson drama camp came from the community and the Center Theatre was excited to make it a reality, “The chair of our board of directors, Cindy Freeman Cyr, was talking to some folks from Monson when the idea of a summer drama camp session was first brought up. We discussed it and it sounded like a great idea to all involved. We’re grateful to Monson Arts for committing to providing space for the camp and we’re looking forward to a great summer.”

Myers said the camp will run weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8-18, with a performance by the campers for the community on July 20 at 2 p.m. Myers was also pleased to say that through another partnership, all the campers will be able to have a free nutritious lunch, “I reached out to Erin Callaway at the Piscataquis Regional Food Center who put me in touch with Linda Hamilton. Linda runs the Summer Meals Program for the Greenville Consolidated School District. Linda has been working to provide a free summer lunch program in Monson and was happy to include our drama campers in the mix as well.”

Myers said the camp is open to elementary- and middle-school- aged kids and that the Theatre was anxious to include as many kids as possible, “While we try to keep camp as affordable as we can, we are also asking the Monson community to make donations towards camp scholarships so we can include kids regardless of their ability to pay for camp.”

The Monson camp will happen prior to the two classic camps at the East Sangerville Grange, which will run from July 22 to Aug. 2, and Aug. 5-16. Registration is also open for the Center Theatre’s April vacation camp which takes place at Central Hall in Dover Foxcroft. That camp runs April 15-19 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
