Dover-Foxcroft women’s club news
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Miosac Club met at Thayer Parkway Feb. 19. President Suzanne Raymond welcomed members and asked everyone to sing “Happy Birthday” to Minnie McCormick on her exact day. Cathy Cody was introduced as a guest and possible new member.
Roxy McGlauflin led the Club collect, American’s Creed and Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Diane Leighton took roll call with 11 members present. She then read the minutes of the last meeting.
McGlauflin noted there was no correspondence. McCormick read the treasurer’s report in the absence of Treasurer Pat Jones.
Brenda Quiet reported the next meeting is set for March 5 with Foxcroft Academy Head of School Arnold Shorey speaking about the Libra Foundation and ice arena. Diane Leighton is in charge of the program. Anne Cress and Vicki Moschella are hostesses.
Pine Tree Hospice trivia night was discussed and more plans made. The club will have a team participating.
Ice out tickets are ready and will be on sale until March 31. Monies received helps provide club programs.
Art Contest Chairman Wendy Hutchins announced the local show will be March 21 from 1-3 p.m. at The Commons at Central Hall. Local high school students will be participating.
Rheba Michaud, food cupboard representative, thanked members for the many bottles of shampoo and conditioner. Members will bring deodorant to the next meeting.
Under unfinished business, Raymond spoke about the GFWC Maine Educational Loan Fund and Maude McKenzie Scholarship Applications available at Foxcroft Academy. Four club members volunteered to be on the committee.
Coupons for the military were discussed and some turned in.
The District Art Show will be held March 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jeff’s Catering. GFWC Maine Spring Convention will be May 2-3 in Freeport. The meeting was adjourned.
A fun filled pound party followed with members bidding on decorated packages weighing a pound. Some got treasures and others jokes, $171 was raised for the GFWC Maine Scholarship.
Delicious refreshments were served by Leighton and Dot Finnemore.
