D-F women’s club news

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)/Miosac Club met at Thayer Parkway Feb. 5 with 11 members present. President Suzanne Raymond called the meeting to order and welcomed all. Tami Cox led the Club Collect, American’s Creed, and Pledge of Allegiance.

Secretary Diane Leighton took roll and read the minutes of the last meeting. Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read thank you notes from the fire department for the club’s donation last spring and the food cupboard.

Brenda Quiet advised the next meeting will be Feb. 19 and the program will be a pound party. Money raised will go to the scholarship fund.

Barb Austin gave a report on the Kiwanis Christmas Campaign and noted it was a great success.

The Hospice Trivia night was discussed and several members will be participating and others will be contributing snacks. The team is looking forward to the challenge.

Raymond announced that the Ice Out Contest will proceed as usual. Tickets will be on sale through March. Anne Cress is chairman and is in charge of tickets.

McGlauflin gave a brief note about the High School Art Contest. More information will be available when Chairman Wendy Hutchins attends the next meeting.

The club will be supporting the food cupboard with items that are not available now. Rheba Michaud will be liaison for that project.

Raymond gave the annual report of 2,222 volunteer hours and the over 50 projects the club participated in last year.

Under unfinished business, members voted to save coupons for the troops. Coupons are good for six months after expiration dates to allow time for them to be shipped and sorted.

The reporting process is being discussed and changes will be made to make reporting easier.

Under new business, the District Art Show will be held at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer March 30. The winners from the local contest will go for further judging.

Forms for the Maude McKenzie Educational Loan Fund will be given to Foxcroft Academy students.

Members were informed of GFWC Maine Spring Convention in Freeport May 2-3.

One Linus Quilt was presented by Austin. She gave out squares of cloth for the Linus Quilt Project in the spring. Members sorted them and these will be made up in kits for quilters to use. This is a very worthwhile project.

Following the work session, members enjoyed wonderful refreshments by Cox from a beautifully Valentine-decorated table by Cress.
