Soil and water conservation district launches second Families in the Outdoors Program
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) is excited to kick off its second annual Families in the Outdoors program. The goal of this program is to provide fun, active, and interesting opportunities for families to enjoy the outdoors, together. This program is designed for youth ages 5 and up, parents, grandparents and other relatives. This year, the district will be offering seasonal sessions, each with a different nature-related theme. Last year’s activities were such a great success that staff are really looking forward to bringing it back in this exciting new way.
The first session in this program series is the Snowshoe Adventure at the Law Farm from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Feb. 21 — the snow day is Feb. 22. Registration is open for this fun outdoor program. Families will enjoy a half day snowshoe with the PCSWCD, Master Maine Guide Alexandra Conover Bennett, and Maine Wildlife Biologist Sarah Spencer. There will be lots to see, learn, and do on this snowshoeing adventure. With thanks to Winter Kids, participants don’t even have to own a pair of snowshoes to join in, as they have provided 20 pairs for this event (snowshoes will be first come, first serve). The PCSWCD will provide a snack and something warm to drink.
The PCSWCD looks forward to seeing you out at the Law Farm for this fantastic family-oriented event. Be sure to keep an eye open for the next Families in the Outdoors session “Rocks, Minerals & Dirt” coming up on Thursday, April 18. Want to play in the dirt? Plan to be at the Garden Fun! Spaces are limited for Families in the Outdoors and participants must pre-register. There is a small fee per person, which helps build educational offerings.
