Band changes name for new season

DEXTER — At the annual meeting of the Carl R. Cuthbert Community Band Foundation, members voted to change the band name from the Dexter Community Band to the H.J. Crosby Community Band of Dexter, Maine. This recognizes the band’s preservation and promotion of the works of Dexter-born composer Harold Josiah Crosby (1886-1920), who wrote over 50 pieces of music. It also better reflects the diverse membership, which expands beyond the town of Dexter. The new name is also distinguishable from the Dexter Community Band of Dexter, Mich.

New board members were also elected: Lou Harper of Sangerville, president; C. Tom Gerkovich III of Abbot, vice-president; and Jane Neptune of Guilford and Rick Jennings of St. Albans, representatives.
The band wishes to thank the Wayside Theatre for summer rehearsal space and they held a benefit concert for the Theatre/Grange at the Dexter town hall.
The band is preparing for the holiday season with weekly rehearsals at the Ridge View Community School in Dexter at 6 p.m. New members of all abilities are always welcome. The band is in particular need of percussionists. Instrumental loan and instruction are available. To assist with the expanding music library, volunteer “band aids,” requiring no musical skills, are needed.
Now in its third year, the band’s sponsoring organization is a 501c(3) non-profit organization and a member of the New Horizons International Music Association.
