Local Key Clubs host special advance screening of ‘Bumblebee’ at Center Theatre Monday evening

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Light, camera, action! On Monday, Dec. 17 the Center Theatre is proud to announce that it will be hosting an advance screening of the new action-packed Transformers movie “Bumblebee” nearly a week before it opens to the public nationwide.

Thanks to the work of the Foxcroft Academy, Dexter Regional High School, and Greenville High School Key Clubs with the Thirst Project, Paramount Pictures has offered this movie, at no charge to the theatre and guests, to be screened at Center Theatre as a thank-you for the students’ efforts.

“We are beyond excited to be able to offer this movie for free to the members of the Key Club, their families, and the local communities,” said George Rolleston, FA Key Club advisor. “This opportunity came to us through our affiliation with Evan Wesley of The Thirst Project, a non-profit group that is tackling the clean water shortage in many areas of the world by drilling new wells. Two years ago, our three local Key Clubs raised enough money ($12k) to fund a new well in Swaziland, Africa. We are trying to do the same thing this year, and due to this effort, Evan felt having the opportunity to watch the movie before it comes out would be a welcomed thank-you to our small communities.”

So far, the film has received positive reviews by critics with many calling this the best installment of the six-part “Transformer” series.

There is no ticket fee to attend the advance screening. Reserved seats are set for Key Club students, their families, and other members of the community that the local Key Clubs will invite. The rest of the seats are available on a first come, first serve basis.

“We hope to fill every seat in the theatre,” said Patrick Myers, executive director of Center Theatre. “We have never been able to show a major blockbuster this far ahead of its national release. It is a great addition to our busy schedule right before the holidays.”

Doors open on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7 p.m. Concessions will be available, as they are with every movie played at Center Theatre. For more information on the Bumblebee event, e-mail, info@centertheatre.org or call the Center Theatre at 564-8943. The Center Theatre is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization with a mission to make the arts, culture, education, and entertainment accessible to our rural communities.
