Thank you from State Senate candidate Mackey Andrews
To the Editor;
Dear friends and neighbors, I want to congratulate Paul Davis for retaining Senate District 4. Despite the toxic environment on both sides of the aisle at the state and national level, I believe we treated each other with respect and civility. I wish Paul the best as you continue to serve the people in our district and want to assure you that I will work at your side to promote the issues raised by so many local residents — healthcare access and costs, property taxes, the quality of our educational system, and economic growth and sustainability for our large rural region. Not the least of voters’ concern is our substance use disorder crisis and the importance to make treatment accessible and affordable for those who are ready for recovery, and to do whatever we can to prevent this in the first place through education of our youth and supporting families participating in long-term recovery.
I want to thank the Piscataquis and Somerset County Democratic Committees for everything you did to support our campaign. PCDC really gave it their all – with more volunteers than ever before, who knocked on doors, drove candidates, talked with neighbors, put up (and took down!) signs, and wrote letters of support. Special thanks to those who worked so hard on the “inside” campaign – giving thousands of hours of not only time, but expertise and hard work for nearly nine months. You are phenomenal!
I also want to thank all of the people who voted for me! You were not only Democrats, but Greens, Republicans, and Unenrolled voters – proving yet and again that many people vote for the person rather than the party. Thank you! Talking with you at your door or at your kitchen table – even in the grocery store – was an honor and privilege that I won’t forget. Let’s keep talking!
It has been an amazing journey! While we didn’t prevail, the issues you raised remain important. I will continue to work with you to find solutions that meet the needs of our community.
