MDEA agents arrest Dexter man, seize $15,000 in heroin

DEXTER — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and local police arrested a man in Dexter on Monday evening, Nov. 5 following a month-long investigation that involved purchasing drugs directly from the suspect. They seized heroin worth at least $15,000 and more than $2,600 in drug proceeds in the process.

MDEA agents and Dexter police arrested 30-year-old Herbert Simonds Jr. after searching his residence at 120 Main St.

Simonds faces charges of aggravated trafficking in heroin, a Class A crime that carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. He is currently at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland, and his bail is set at $10,000.
