Niteboat to play Wayside Theatre/Grange

DEXTER — The quartet Niteboat will play everything from folk to jazz on Sept. 28 at the Wayside Theatre/Grange. Get ready for an eclectic selection and plan on dancing in the aisles.
Together, the members of Niteboat meld their influences to create texture, mood and a sound that is uniquely their own. Individually, their backgrounds include the Chicago blues, swing, jazz, folk and classical music. There’s even a doctor on board who majored in Japanese music and now plays Finnish folk dances in Monson.

Niteboat’s members are Tony “Sleepy Boy” Brown who has played guitar in numerous Chicago blues and swing bands in Connecticut and Albuquerque since 1979. Brown has an Associates Degree in music and has studied guitar and theory. In 2006 he moved to Dover-Foxcroft where he played lead guitar with In Other Words before joining Niteboat.
Paul Docken started playing the violin at the age of 8 and received classical training into adulthood.  Docken’s love is jazz, and he pursued formal training in jazz at the University of Maine and other universities. He has 30 years of performance experience in club, concert, and festival settings in jazz, classical musical comedy and modern dance.
Ned Garner has been playing jazz bass since his high school days and studied cello for 10 years. Garner later received his doctorate in ethnomusicology, majoring in Japanese music and native instruments. He also plays with Woodsong, the Monson Finnish dance band.
Folk music is Audrey Noether’s favorite, especially singer songwriters from Great Britain, Europe and America. With her sultry vocals and rhythm guitar, Noether has performed with local bands Syntonic and In Other Words. She has also played and sung in venues in Dover-Foxcroft, Portland, on the Maine coast and in Greenwich Village, N.Y.
Home baked goodies and refreshments will be sold at intermission as well as pie auctions, a door prize and a 50/50.  The theatre is located at 851 North Dexter Road (Rt. 23).
