Why I support Congressman Bruce Poliquin

To the Editor;
I have known Bruce Poliquin for over a decade. He is hard working, extremely capable, and works well with all sides for the good of Maine people. Bruce was state treasurer while I was in the Maine Legislature. In that capacity he reduced the cost of selling Maine bonds that were approved by the Maine people. He did this by eliminating the wasteful process of expensive boondoggle trips to New York by staff that were common under other treasurers. He also used his position as a member of the boards of the quasi government agencies such as the Maine Turnpike Authority, the Maine Housing Authority and others to eliminate unnecessary costs.

During his tenure as treasurer it was common to see Bruce in attendance and offering testimony at all committee meetings that had large cost implications for the state budget. This was different from my observations of other treasurers and is indicative of the attention to detail and depth of understanding he brought to complex financial issues.

In his capacity as Maine’s 2nd District Congressman he has been extremely effective in securing Veterans Administration prompt payment to Maine hospitals, and fighting for Maine jobs at New Balance and other businesses. Bruce fought for and was appointed to the Veterans Affairs Committee because of the high proportion of veterans in Maine especially in the 2nd District. I have dealt with him closely in my capacity with multiple veteran service organizations and can attest to the high quality of support he and his staff provide to the veterans of Maine. When I have a difficulty getting approval of a benefit for a veteran that they have earned I go to Bruce for action. He always delivers and is proactive in soliciting comments by veterans on issues that need resolution.

Bruce is hardworking, extremely intelligent, experienced in job creation and empathetic with the needs of the people of Maine. I will vote for him in this election and I hope you do to.
