Piscataquis County United Bikers of Maine ride raises $1,300 for Pine Tree Hospice
DOVER-FOXCROFT — In late July the Piscataquis County United Bikers of Maine took a ride to Moxie Falls, not only traveling to Somerset County for a picnic but to raise money for Pine Tree Hospice. Through ride proceeds, the group was comprised of 19 bikes and 22 people, T-shirt sales, and a raffle a total of $1,300 was raised for Pine Tree Hospice.
During the group’s monthly meeting on Oct. 15 at the Bear’s Den, a $1,300 check was presented to Pine Tree Hospice Executive Director Jane Stitham by Piscataquis County United Bikers of Maine Director Jon Prescott.
“We receive no funding so something like this is absolutely critical,” Stitham told the dozen-plus group members present. “It’s heartfelt, so thank you.”

Stitham said Pine Tree Hospice serves clients in 39 communities across the region. The organization is always in need of volunteers and Stitham said those giving of their time can choose how to give back. She said they can pick up items at the store, plow a driveway, spend time with a client playing a boardgame, and much more.
The Piscataquis County United Bikers of Maine conducted other fundraising rides earlier in the year. In the spring a fundraiser to Kelly’s Landing at Moosehead Lake collected $150 for an account to benefit any United Bikers of Maine chapter member who is injured on their motorcycle. Cold weather resulted in smaller numbers as three bikes and four cars were part of the procession to Greenville.
The group’s ninth annual Cancer Ride featured a larger turnout with 21 bikes and 28 people heading south on a summer day to the Red Barn in Augusta for lunch. Through T-shirt sales and ride money $1,200 was raised for the purchase of gas cards to benefit cancer patients traveling to treatments. Mayo Regional Hospital was given $1,000 of the funds and the other $200 was divided between a pair of Piscataquis County United Bikers of Maine members.
