Free Frogtown Puppeteers show at Maine Red Hot Dog Festival

DEXTER — Bring your inner child and see a show for free. The Wayside Grange and Theatre is a proud sponsor of the free Frogtown Puppeteers show at the Maine Red Hot Dog Festival in downtown Dexter at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11. Great entertainment for all ages.

Flying Styrofoam bananas abound in this wacky, original cowboy adventure “The Legend of the Banana Kid.” Little Chucky heads to the Wild West armed with a mighty fistful of bananas to outwit outlaws. Riding his trusty goat, Chucky arrives in town for an exciting showdown with Big Bad Bart and his gang of bandits. This show features 20 hand-crafted glove, mouth and rod puppets, plenty of antics and sly satire that leaves everyone laughing.

Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers is a puppetry troupe based in Bar Harbor and comprised of three siblings — brothers Erik and Brian Torbeck and sister Robin (Torbeck) Erlandsen. Founded in 2000, Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers has performed at festivals, schools, libraries and theatres in the U.S. and Canada. They write and create all the shows they perform and have received three Citations of Excellence from UNIMA-USA, the highest national award in puppetry. The Wayside Theatre and Grange began in 2002, from the ashes of the North Dexter Grange. Since 2012, this unique collaboration provides the Dexter area with monthly summer and fall concerts by Maine bands along with occasional suppers. Their next concert is Denny Breau, a tremendous guitarist and fun guy, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. The next supper is from 5-6:30 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 15 with meatloaf, all the fixings, home baked desserts and pretty good coffee. The meal includes live background music.

This incredible free puppet show is also sponsored by Dexter Parks and Recreation. For more, please go to redhotdog.org, on Facebook “Wayside Grange and Theatre” or “Dexter Parks and Recreation Department.”
