LETTER-WRITING HONOR -- SeDoMoCha Middle School sixth-grader Jasmine Lockwood is the state-level winner for grades 4-6 in the Letters About Literature contest. Lockwood’s letter to the author of “Too Tought to Hurt” came in first in a field of 833 submissions, which were narrowed to approximately 50 finalists as part of three rounds of judging. Lockwood was presented with a $100 prize during an academic awards ceremony on June 14 at the Dover-Foxcroft school by Dr. Lawrence Boyle, board member of the Maine Humanities Council which organizes Letters About Literature for grades 4-12 in the state.

PROUD TEACHER — SeDoMoCha Middle School grade 6 English/Language Arts teacher Alexis Dumont is pictured with her student Jasmine Lockwood, the state-level winner for grades 4-6 in the Letters About Literature contest. For the last half decade, Dumont’s students have written letters to an author telling them how their work changed the pupil’s view of themselves or the world. The letters are submitted to the Maine Humanities Council for the Letters About Literature contest. As the Maine winner, Lockwood has now qualified for the national-level competition through the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.
