Robshaw and Baldwin win multiple conference track titles

CARIBOU — Penquis Valley High School junior Cymeria Robshaw and Greenville High School junior Ben Baldwin both won a pair of events at the 2018 Penobscot Valley Conference Small School Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 26 at Caribou High School.

Robshaw would score all 28 points for the Patriots as Penquis ended the day in fifth place among a field of 16 schools.

The junior won the 100 in a time of 13.42 seconds, edging Orono High School junior and defending conference champion Katherine O’Brien by 0.03 seconds.

Robshaw also earned top honors in the triple jump. Her top jump was good for a distance of 33 feet, 6.5 inches, besting runner-up senior Maija Overturf of Central High School of Corinth by 1-4.50.

In addition to PVC Small School titles, Robshaw was the 2018 runner-up in the long jump as she landed in the sand at a distance of 15-10. She only trailed the 16-03.50 for Orono junior Camile Kohtala.

The girls from Dexter Regional High School scored nine points at Caribou to finish in ninth place.

Sophomore Erin Bache came in third in the high jump by clearing the bar at 4-08. Junior Danielle Cummings was sixth in the event at 4-04.

Tiger senior Rebecca Batron finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 27-03.50.

Coming in 11th on Saturday were the Greenville girls with five points.

Sophomore Abby McDonough placed fifth in the high jump at 4-06. Classmate Bianca Breton had the fifth-place javelin throw at 92-02.

The two both were part of the sixth-place 4×100 relay team. The all-sophomore squad of Morgan Noyes, McDonough, Breton and Jessica Pomerleau covered the lap in 58.33 seconds.

In the boys’ meet, Greenville scored 34 points to finish fifth among 17 teams.

Baldwin won both the 100 and 200. In the 100 he earned the day’s top time at 12.04 seconds, a fourth of a second faster than the event runner-up.

Baldwin claimed the 200 PVC Small School title in a time of 24.19 seconds. He won the event by 0.72 seconds.

Greenville senior Devin Boone had second- and third-place performances in the shot put and discus. Boone’s throw of 45-07 in the shot put was the second-highest of the day, trailing only the 47-05 for senior Austin Keib of the Bangor Christian School.

In the discus Boone placed third at a distance of 127-08.

The Dexter boys were 11th with a score of 13 points.

Tiger sophomore Cameron Paige had the second-place time in the 100 at 12.29 seconds. He also came in fifth in the 200 at 25.97 seconds.

Junior Dillion Allen came in fifth in the long jump at a distance of 17-06.50. Dexter junior David Kirshkaln finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 38-05.25.

Next up for the athletes is the Class C state championship on Saturday at Massabesic High School in Waterboro.
