‘Lion King Jr.’ at Center Theatre leaves audiences roaring

DOVER-FOXCROFT — A near-capacity crowd filled the Center Theatre on May 4 for opening night of “Disney’s Lion King Jr.” They were treated to a local all-youth cast performance that brought them to their feet in a standing ovation. The play, directed by Ben Layman with vocal direction by Emily Allen, is a production of the Center Theatre and Slightly Off-Center Players.

Executive Director of the Center Theatre, Patrick Myers, said he was very proud of the show. “These kids are doing amazing work on the stage,” Myers said, “it wonderful to see the talent that’s right here in our community.”

Myers said he was also thrilled with the volunteers that helped with the show. “The costumes, set construction and artwork were all done by dedicated volunteers. It just goes to show what the community can do when we all come together.”

Myers also wanted to thank the show sponsors, Foxcroft Veterinary Clinic, and Dave’s World U.S. Cellular for their support.

Audiences leaving the show said that it was one of the best show they’ve seen at the Center Theatre. Because of scheduling conflicts, there are only two shows taking place the second weekend. The last two shows of “Lion King Jr.” are at 2 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. Tickets are on sale at www.centertheatre.org and on the Theatre’s Facebook page.
