JD Foundation’s third annual Walk/Run to Wake the Silence raises suicide awareness

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On the morning of Saturday, April 28 hundreds of participants took part in the Abbot-based JD Foundation’s third annual 5K Walk/Run to Wake the Silence, raising funds for the organization, honoring those who have died by suicide and supporting survivors and families impacted.

“We had an amazing walk!,” JD Foundation founder Cheryl Morin said. “With over 200 walkers, including 35 students from Greenville High School’s baseball and softball teams. The parking lot looked so full of people and then the bus drove up. We were so very happy to see so many students involved this year. Next year Greenville High teams will challenge Dexter, Dover-Foxcroft and Guilford schools to attend and support suicide awareness and anti-bullying.”

More pledges and contributions are still coming in to the JD Foundation “but just on Saturday we were $4,998,” Morin said. “We are extremely grateful for every business that donated, all the walkers who paid registration and also those who went out and got pledges.

“We are grateful for all of the vendors who supplied many resources to all of us at the walk — it takes a village.

“The coverage from Piscataquis Observer, Rolling Thunder, and Eastern Gazette was amazing, and we are grateful to WABI for allowing our own Dave Easler to share with everyone what this walk is about,” Morin said. “Another thanks to Lucy Johnston for representing us at radio station WERU.

“Last but certainly not least, thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make this possible. Monies raised at this event go to all of our wonderful programs.

“Please note that we have several workshops coming up, all that are listed on our website, as well as support groups for suicide survivors and veterans.”
