Healthcare at a tipping point at May 4 First Friday event

DEXTER — From 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 4 Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) will host its monthly First Friday public meeting on the topic of healthcare by showing the film “Fixit” at the Abbott Memorial Library on Hall Street with a facilitated discussion following.

As DDATT’s mission is to help our area reduce our use of fossil fuels and create a more stable rural economy, we are committed to skills and ideas which can help us all take better care of our natural resources.

Because healthcare is a major economic expense to all Mainers, and is especially difficult for rural dwellers because of transportation and availability issues, figuring out the best possible solutions at the least possible costs is directly in line with DDATT’s purpose.

Debate over “the best” solution has been in headlines for decades, leaving in its wake much confusion over definitions of words, policies, and applications. What do the words “universal”, “high quality”, and “affordable” actually mean? What have been the effects of industrial economics on human health? Who pays? Who benefits? Do answers to these questions actually exist?
