Open house and feeding our neighbors

To the Editor;
Do you ever wonder what your next meal will be? Do you think about what is not in your cupboards or how to stretch what you do have on hand to make a meal for you and your family? Well, there are some of our neighbors that do have these questions.

Each Monday evening there is a community meal that is hosted by a non-profit church or group in our area. For over three years now, about 90 families join the gathering for a warm meal and nice conversation. It was started out of the concern of a few and now reaches out to many. This is one way to help feed our neighbors.

Another small way of helping our neighbors is through the Backpack program. A partnership with the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard (DFAFC) and Kiwanis helps alleviate food insecurity among children and youth in our community.

Still another way to feed our neighbors is the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard. Our mission is “Feeding People, Building Relationships.” On the second and fourth Thursday of every month, a staff of dedicated volunteers greets individuals and families with food and related resources. This is a small part needed to provide nutritious food for our neighbors.

Come and learn more about how the DFAFC works at the open house from 2-5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at the Congregational Church located at 828 West Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft. Discover ways to donate, volunteer or share in the resources of this volunteer effort.

If you can’t make our open house, please consider searching out your local food cupboard and spread the word about feeding our neighbors.
