Bangor Savings Bank grants $2,200 to Wayside Grange, Theatre

DEXTER — The Wayside Grange and Theatre is thrilled to be the recipient of a $2,200 from the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation.

“We’re very happy to fund this restoration and bring it up to code,” said Vice President and Dexter Branch Manager Barbara Whitney, a former member of the Theatre. “The Wayside Grange and Theatre continues the strong tradition of a grassroots organization which provides quality community entertainment.”

“This money is important for the comfort of our audience,” Wayside Grange Master David Pearson said. “We’re grateful for Bangor Savings Bank’s support of our efforts to maintain this building.”

Improvements will be made to the rear fire escape and replacing some windows.

The Wayside Grange building is over 100 years old and was designed to serve as a hub for local social and community activities. The Wayside Grange began in 2002 after the North Dexter Grange membership evaporated. At the same time, the Wayside Theatre was separately incorporated as a 501c(3) non profit. Both organizations share the building and membership.

Grange membership is open to all and our meetings are public, too. Volunteers are always welcome. Please call Pearson at 924-5035 for meeting dates, time and place.

Wayside’s season opens Saturday, April 28 with a concert by Mes Amis, a Gypsy jazz band. May 12 is a smothered beef supper, May 26 is Brooks and Kennedy, June 30 is a double show with Three Yankees and a Hillbilly followed by Timberdoodle, July 28 is Castlebay, Sept. 15 is a meatloaf supper, Sept. 29 is Denny Breau, Oct. 13 is the Variety Show and the season ends with the Misty Mountaineers on Oct. 27.
