U.S. Sen. Collins visits SeDoMoCha School

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On April 5 U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine visited students elementary and middle school students at the SeDoMoCha School.

Collins began her visit by presenting her slideshow “Days in the Life of Senator Susan M. Collins.” The presentation gives students an opportunity to see some of the work she does on a daily basis, including meeting with Mainers, touring Maine businesses, chairing Senate hearings, and speaking on the Senate floor. Following the presentation, Collins read “Antlers Forever!” to a grade 1 class and stopped by a music class to listen to students sing the school’s song “SeDoMoCha.”

“It was a pleasure to meet with so many enthusiastic students at SeDoMoCha Elementary and Middle School,” Collins said. “These bright students demonstrated a strong dedication to their academic studies, and they are so fortunate to have a school community that is devoted to helping them learn. I was truly impressed by the commitment to excellence that is shared by the educators and staff who inspire students and give them the tools they need to achieve their dreams.”

During her visit Collins also met with music educator Kaitlin Young who was named the 2018 Maine Teacher of the Year. Young has taught at SeDoMoCha for eight years and was named the 2017 Piscataquis County Teacher of the Year.

Collins has visited more than 200 schools throughout Maine during her Senate service and has long led efforts to honor the nation’s public schools and improve the education system. Last month Collins and U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Montana joined students, teachers, and administrators from across the country to celebrate Public Schools Week, a nationwide initiative to highlight the importance of America’s public education system.
