April events at Thompson Free Library

I have high hopes for spring, even if it’s taking an eternity to get here. A pileated woodpecker, I’ve named Pyewacket (after Kim Novak’s cat who stalks Jimmy Stewart in the quirky film “Bell, Book, & Candle”) is visiting our bird feeder at home (perhaps pye-babies will follow?). And, thankfully, ice cream stands are opening again! Black raspberry, anyone? Besides showers, April brings a wide-range of events to the Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft.

Have questions about setting up your smartphone or laptop? Confused by email or social media? Want to find some great apps for your tablet? Take advantage of our technology help time from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11. While we can’t actually fix computers or other devices, we can try to help you figure out specific technology issues. We can share what we’ve learned from the techno-trenches.

Thursday, April 12 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. we kick off our new six-month series called TFL 101. Held the second Thursday of the month, these programs promise to be lively, informative, interactive demonstrations. Pick up the basic how-to’s and then explore or learn more on your own. Joy Bueschen from Monson’s Turning Page Farm (known for their wonderful goat’s milk products) headlines our first program “Laundry Soap 101.” Joy will show us how to make our own laundry soap and save money in the process and take home her step-by-step booklet too.

Wednesday, April 18 at 1 p.m. get in the Earth Day spirit by making a paper mache bowl that you can take home with you. Librarian Michelle Fagan guides you through the process using a crafting technique that never goes out of style. All ages are welcome.

Geneva Chambers of Dover-Foxcroft is our artist of the month. Stop by and see her assortment of innovative, small scale drawings, in color and black and white.

Anne Frank’s “A History for Today” is a 33-panel exhibit that will be shown at Maine Highlands Senior Center/Central Hall in Dover-Foxcroft from April 30-May 11. Thompson Free Library and Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis are partnering with SSO (Sedomocha School Organization), the lead organizer, to bring this important and educational work to our community.
