PCHS Class of 2018 honor parts

GUILFORD — Piscataquis Community High School Principal John Keane recently announced the valedictorian and two salutatorians for the Class of 2018.

The valedictorian is Lena Downes, the daughter of Phil Downes and Priscilla Johnson of Sangerville. She has been a member of Key Club, Drama Club, Pirate Volunteer Club, student council, band, chorus, jazz band, pep band, is in the National Honor Society and is the captain of the math team. Downes has also participated in softball, field hockey, and soccer. She enjoys playing music, especially fiddle tunes. She will be attending the University of Maine, majoring in mathematics.

One salutatorian is Alexandra Renee Huff, the daughter of Wendy and Joel Huff of Wellington and the granddaughter of M. Ethel and Dana Huff of Harmony and Joan Gaulin of Winslow. Huff has been an active member of PCHS’ National Honors Society, Civil Rights Team, math team, Drama Club, soccer team, wrestling team, Pirate Volunteer Club, MELMAC Team, and Lincoln Douglas Debate Team. She co-founded the school’s Glee Club and was the captain of the Quiz Bowl Team during her senior year. Huff was a member of chorus for three years and went to the District V Honors Festival all three of those years. She will be majoring in Electronic Journalism Arts at Northern Vermont University in Lyndon, Vt. in the fall.

The other salutatorian is Adam Bagley. He wrote, “I live in Parkman with my parents, Roxann and Jeff, and younger brother Kyle. I have attended Piscataquis Community High School for all four years of high school and will be attending the University of Maine at Fort Kent for forest business management next year. While in high school I have participated in JV basketball freshman year as well as being a JV to varsity swinger my sophomore and junior years, senior year I was a varsity starter. I also have participated in varsity tennis from sophomore to senior year. All four years of high school I have been a member of the Envirothon Team, we achieved sixth place at the state level my junior year. I have also taken part in Key Club, Pirate Volunteer Club and the National Honor Society. In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors, I am an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoy spending time in the woods. I also am a member of the Big Pine Gun Club where I am part of a youth marksman team. I look forward to being a licensed forester for the state of Maine and being able to help manage one of Maine’s most important resources.”
