Anne Frank travelling exhibit coming to Dover-Foxcroft
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The SeDoMoCha School Organization (SSO) with the support of a number of local organizations will be bringing the travelling exhibit “Anne Frank: A History for Today” to the Commons at Central Hall from April 30 to May 11. The exhibit, developed by the Anne Frank House and sponsored in North America by The Anne Frank Center USA, has been travelling around the world for over 10 years.
The exhibit encourages a broad, international audience, especially young people, to think about Anne Frank and the world she lived in, including reflections on anti-Semitism, discrimination, and persecution, as well as the positive story or resistance to these evils.
Theresa Makowski, who is leading the effort for the SSO, hopes that many area children and residents will be able to see the exhibit. “We’re scheduling hours that the the exhibit will be open to the public as well as scheduling school tours,” she said. “We hope to help people reflect on the meaning of Anne Frank’s story and its relevance for today — to help people reflect on values such as freedom, equality and democracy.”
In order to provide as much time as possible for the public and students to interact with the exhibit, the SSO is looking for community volunteers who would be able to acts as docents and guides for the exhibit. “We have training materials and information for the volunteers,” Makowski says, “and are looking to build a supportive group of guides who can help and learn from each other.”
