March events at Thompson Free Library
DOVER-FOXCROFT — In Maine, the idea of spring (flowers blooming, birds singing) often clashes with the reality of it (mud and snow). March marks a welcome, if slow, transformation. Let the lineup at the Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft wake you from your winter slumber with an interactive mix of learning and escapism.
Fairy tales can come true from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 14 as Librarian Michelle Fagan hosts a Fairy Tale Tea Party for children up to age six. Your little ones can dress up as their favorite fairy tale character. There will be refreshments, a craft, and a happy ending.
Also, on Wednesday, March 14 from 1-3 p.m. is technology help time. Stop by and we’ll try to answer any questions you may have regarding your laptops, tablets, phones, etc. While we may be able to troubleshoot for you, keep in mind that we do not fix computers or other devices. Ideally, technology should make our lives better not more complicated. We’ll do our best to help you move in that direction.
Get into the Easter spirit on at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 29. Michelle will guide you through creating this traditional craft, also called pysanky, with a method similar to batik. Due to the materials involved, this program is for ages 10 and up only. Please contact the library to sign up.
Thursday, March 29 signals the start of our “Spring Ten-Cent Book Sale” (all proceeds go to Friends of the Library). Book sale hours: Thursday, March 29 4-7 p.m., Friday, March 30 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, March 31 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by and browse to your heart’s content, you never know what hidden gem might jump out at you.
Another good reason to stop by the library this month is to admire the art work of local resident Kathy Farris. Take a break and take in her amazing acrylics and mixed mediums. Now retired, Kathy is dedicating more time to both art history and the creative process. Come in and enjoy a mindful moment with her evocative nature, landscapes, and local scenes.
Before spring is firmly planted and those outdoor projects call your name, take advantage of the library’s prolific offerings during this seasonal in-between time.
