Area schools present one-act plays at the Center Theatre this weekend

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre is hosting three performances of one-act plays from area schools at 7 p.m. on Friday March 2 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 3. The plays from Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford, Foxcroft Academy, SeDoMoCha Elementary of Dover-Foxcroft, and Penquis Valley High School in Milo are open to the public with admission by donation. Friday night all four plays will be performed, but due to scheduling conflicts PCHS students will not be able to attend the Saturday performances.

“We’re excited to have the four schools taking part in the event,” said Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive director. “We couldn’t have done it without the support of the Piscataquis County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. They provided support that helped both Milo and Guilford create their plays and bring them to the Theatre. The plays from both Milo and Guilford were created by the students with support from a coach from the Maine Alliance for Arts Education.”

Myers said that the plays from Foxcroft Academy and SeDoMoCha Elementary were more traditional pieces. Foxcroft Academy is performing “A Bright, Clear Sky” written by Kristina Halvorsen and SeDoMoCha Elementary is performing “The Mysterious Case of the Missing Wring” written by Janie Downey Maxwell.
