‘Then and Now’ fashion show to showcase styles of the past and present

GUILFORD — Ever wonder how much work it took Scarlett O’Hara of “Gone with the Wind” to get into those gorgeous dresses?
Come and find out, as both Civil War fashions and more modern dress will be showcased at the “Then and Now” fashion show, as attendees learn a bit of history while enjoying some Civil War-era refreshments, listen to some music and see the various fashions.

LOOKS OF THEN AND NOW — Dover-Foxcroft Label Shopper Manager Brenda York, left, and Daughters of the Union Veterans Sarah Elizabeth Palmer Tent No. 23 President Carmen Smith model some of the attire that will be on display during the “Then and Now” fashion show on Saturday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Valley Grange. The fashion show will feature articles of clothing from the time of the Civil War compared to what may be worn today — such as 19th century ball gowns modeled alongside contemporary prom dresses.

The show is taking place Saturday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Valley Grange on the Guilford Center Road in Guilford. There are a limited number of tickets available, and tickets may be purchased at Label Shopper in Dover-Foxcroft or by calling Carmen Smith at 564-2178 or Mary Annis at 564-0820.
This fashion show is being presented by the Sarah Elizabeth Palmer Tent No. 23 of the Daughters of the Union Veterans (DUV) of the Civil War and Label Shopper.
The clothing, such as ball gowns of the Civil War-era compared to today’s prom dresses as well as attire worn during the 19th century for work tasks presented with current clothing styles, will be modeled by local high school students and members of the DUV.
