DEXTER — Despite steady drizzle and fog, more than 35 volunteers of all ages showed up at Crosby Park in Dexter on Saturday to install some of the town’s new playground equipment.

TEAMWORK — Melodie Stanhope, Fred Banks (hidden) and Eddie Langlais assemble one of the climbing structures.

Thanks to some successful fundraisers over the past year, the committee has raised over $32,000 toward its goal of $130,000. The equipment includes a climbing unit, six swings, a 10-person merry-go-round, a treehouse-type climber for 2- to 5-year-olds, four park benches and three “surfers” or surfboards on springs. The new units replace the 20-year-old pressure-treated ones that were worn out and deemed unusable.

Recreation Director Jimmy Bell said he was pleased with the turnout. Those who participated in the work party were treated to a cookout for their volunteer efforts.
