September events at Thompson Free Library in D-F

DOVER-FOXCROFT — September signals transition. It means back to school for students, back to work for educators, and back to our projects and goals, buoyed by a sense of urgency and clarity that autumn days can bring. Think of the Thompson Free Library as the friend who keeps you grounded and on track as you navigate your transitions.

Thursday, Sept. 14 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Dexter herbalist Linda Tisdale headlines the Brown Bag Lunch Series. She will discuss how to use herbs to support the nervous system during stressful times. Whether you, a family member, or friend are dealing with anxiety or stress on a micro or macro level, this will be an informative and useful hour. According to Tisdale, stress can lead to adrenal fatigue and many chronic illnesses. Learn what herbs might help overcome the effects of long term stress.

While the library has an impressive collection, keep in mind that if we don’t have a book you want, we may very well be able to get it for you via the Bangor Public Library’s interlibrary loan service. If they don’t have it, they search for it within the state and, if necessary, throughout the country. We allow patrons to request two books at a time and ask that they return them by the due date. We can often renew these books but it is not guaranteed. Generally, you can keep a book for two to three weeks.

Kids love it when librarian Michelle Fagan pours a whole crate of Legos onto the library floor from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month This classic toy triggers creativity, excitement, and camaraderie.

The little ones (ages 1-5) find Storytime (Thursdays at 11 a.m.) a fun-filled hour of stories, songs, and more. Fagan’s gift for connecting with kids is what makes this so engaging and entertaining.

Sometimes your printer runs out of toner at a crucial moment or you don’t have access to a computer or to high speed internet, but you can breathe easier knowing that the library has computers and Wi-Fi, along with printing, copying, and faxing services.

As the air gets crisper and cooler and summer fades away, fall is ripe for change. Stop by the Thompson Free Library to refocus and recharge. Our everyday resources and ongoing programs provide practical support, social stimulation, and lifelong learning for families and individuals.
