Friends of Community Fitness holds annual 5K and kids fun run for Guilford’s Piscataquis River Festival

GUILFORD — Friends of Community Fitness held its 12th annual Fitness 5K, as part of the Piscataquis River Festival, on the morning of July 29 with the following results (again this year entrants ran the course against traffic).

Sixteen-year-old Dawson Smith of Gorham won the Fitness 5K for the second year in a row. In 2017 he covered the 3.1 miles in a time of 19 minutes, 55 seconds to finish first among a field of 26 entrants. Smith also bested his 2016 run by 1:46.

Top two women’s 40-49: 1. Moulton 2. Dunham.

Top men’s 50-59: 1. Martell.

Top three men’s 60-plus: 1. Larson 2. Lemieux 3. Devine.

Top three women’s 60-plus: 1. Nilsen 2. Herter 3. Killam.

Before the 5K, boys and girls had the opportunity to run a lap inside the athletic field fence in the Kids Fun Run.

Nine-year-old Brady Gaw had the top time as he ran around the grass in 1 minute, 17 seconds.

Eleven-year-old Kamryn Merrill was the girl’s winner and second overall finisher at 1:24.

Breelyn Gaw, age 7, was third overall and the second place girl at 1:28.

Placing fourth overall and third among the girls was Reese Starbird with a time of 1:29.

The second-place boy was Patrick Sullivan, 8, at 1:30; and the third boy’s runner was Harold White, 7, at 1:35.
