DOVER-FOXCROFT — Thanks to a grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, totaling approximately $7,500, students in grades 4-8 at the SeDoMoCha School each had the opportunity to order $21 worth of books to read over the summer. The books, about three per individual, were handed out to the pupils during an assembly in the gym on the afternoon of June 12.

SUMMER PLANS — The fifth grade at SeDoMoCha Middle School in Dover-Foxcroft poses with books each student received on June 12. All grade 4-8 pupils got to choose $21 worth of books to read over the summer vacation through a grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation.
“I hope you are all excited to be reading your books for the summer,” Principal Julie Kimball said on the next to last day of classes. Kimball explained Librarian Gayle Peirce worked to get the grant from the King Foundation for the students’ books. “You will be enjoying your books for many, many hours over the summer,” Kimball added.
Peirce said the students were able to choose the titles they wanted to read through Scholastic Book flyers, and she thanked middle school secretary Mandy Roberts for processing all of the orders for the students to receive. Peirce said to support summer reading, the SeDoMoCha School Library will be open for book socials on Tuesday, July 2 and Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon. Students can bring in books to swap, receive reading support and share and create video book trailers — updates will be posted at www.sad68.org.
Over a dozen volunteers, including members of the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club, then brought in the books for the students and were met with a round of loud applause. Each homeroom had a shopping cart, lent for the program by Will’s Shop ‘n Save in Dover-Foxcroft, with the students’ books all individually bagged.
“Three books apiece and over 300 students, we have over 1,000 books here,” Peirce said as the grades came forward to receive their summer reading selections.
