FA track runs at PVC Large School championships
BAR HARBOR — The Foxcroft Academy outdoor track and field teams took part in the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) Large School Championship on May 27 at Mount Desert Island (MDI) High School. The Pony boys finished with a score of 28 points to place seventh among 10 schools, and the girls from Foxcroft came in ninth in a field of 10 teams with 16 points.
Senior Evan Chadbourne and Matt Storer accounted for all 28 of their team’s points with four top three performances between the two of them.
Chadbourne was the meet runner-up in both the 100 and 200. In the 100 Chadbourne finished with a time of 11.60 seconds, being edged by the a fraction of a second by Hampden Academy senior Thomas Darby. In the 200 Chadbourne had the second-best time at 23.76 seconds, .14 seconds behind MDI junior Griffin Maristany.
Storer was third in both the shot put and discus. In the shot he had a top throw of 49 feet, 8 inches. Storer’s third-place discus distance was 138 feet, 2 inches.
Foxcroft sophomore Chandler Dow came in seventh in the 300 hurdles at 44.99 seconds and he was also eighth in the 110-hurdle finals at 18.57 seconds. The Pony 4×100 relay team — comprised of Chadbourne, Storer, Dow and senior David Salley — finished ninth at 50.04 seconds. Storer also came in seventh in the javelin with a throw of 119-03.
Pony sophomore Hyatt Smith came in seventh in the pole vault at 10-00, 16th in the long jump at 16-04.25 and he was 18th in the triple jump at 34-05.
Host MDI won the boy’s PVC Large School title with 168 points, followed by Hampden at 106 and Brewer High School in third place with 105 points.
In the girl’s meet, Foxcroft senior Emily Mikoud accounted for all 16 Pony points by placing second in the discus and shot. Mikoud had a top throw of 114-04 in the discus and her second-place shot distance measured 38-02.50. She trailed only the respective throws of 119-00 and 40-08.75 for Hampden senior Daija Misler.
Mikoud also came in 16th in the 100 prelims at 14.46 seconds and she anchored the seventh-place Foxcroft 4×100 squad. Freshman Olivia Wesley, sophomores Sarasofia Stentaro and Jacalyn Pelletier and Mikoud combined to cover the lap around the track in 56.66 seconds.
Wesley finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:39.27. Junior Avery Nelson was 15th in the javelin at 59-02.
Bangor High School won the girl’s crown with a score of 119.5 points. MDI came in second at 107 points and 98 points placed Brewer third.
