Piscataquis Valley Fair Association

To the Editor;
I would like to clear up a couple of misconceptions about the fairgrounds. Following that, I would like to express my concerns for the lawns and road system of said grounds.

One (1): The fairgrounds are not owned by the Town of Dover-Foxcroft, but by a private organization, the Piscataquis Valley Fair Association (P.V.F.A.). It encompasses over 50 acres and is run by volunteers. We have a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer and a board of directors. We are not tax exempt.

Two (2): There are no paid workers for the association – strictly volunteers.

Lastly, the month of May, things start to green-up. The ground is still very soft from receding snow and spring rains. Along comes the family car or four wheel drive truck and they think it is O.K. to drive across the lawn or through the mudhole on the access road, leaving ruts as they go. Then they let the dogs do – oh they’ll show me a doggie bag, but they don’t use ‘em. As evidenced by me while mowing. Or, the young mom who puts the full diaper under the car… and drives off!

Users of the fairgrounds, please be considerate and don’t litter.

This year, the fair is Aug. 24-27. For more info go to www.piscataquisvalleyfair.com.
