Winter sports honors

Athletes from the area’s five high schools received postseason recognition for their performances during the 2016-17 winter sports season.
Jeremy Richard of Foxcroft Academy was chosen for the Big East Conference boys basketball All-Defensive Team. Josh Reed was selected as a Big East Scholar-Athlete. Michaleb Niles received a Paul Soucy Spirit Award.
For the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC), Bryce Gilbert of Piscataquis Community was chosen for the Class C/D First Team.
Second Team honorees included Brayden Miller of Dexter Regional High School and Greenville High School’s Nick Foley
Honorable mention players from the region are Devin Boone and Connor DiAngelo of Greenville and Dexter’s Zach White.
White, Noah Pratt of Greenville, Dillon Drew of PCHS and Penquis Valley High School’s Clayton Preble were all PVC All-Defensive Team selections.
PVC All-Academic boys basketball players are Brandon Allen, Miller, Chandler Perkins, William Strauch and White of Dexter, PCHS’ Garrett Kimball and Jarrod White and Colin Beckett and Preble of Penquis.
Grace Bickford of Foxcroft was named to the girls Big East Conference First Team. Abigail Simpson was chosen for the Third Team, and Makenzie Beaudry received all-conference honorable mention recognition.
The Ponies’ Kendra Ewer was named to the All-Defensive Team. Avery Nelson was named as one of the Big East Conference’s top scholar-athletes and Emily Mikoud received a Paul Soucy Spirit Award.
In the PVC, Megan Peach of Dexter and Sara Almirante and Erin Speed of PCHS were three of the five First Team players.
Abby Webber of Dexter was named to the Second Team, and Penquis’ Jordan Durant was a Third Team selection.
Halle Pelletier of Greenville and Alivia Hunt of PCHS both received All-PVC honorable mention.
All-Defensive players are Webber, Greenville’s Bianca Breton, Lexi Harris of PCHS and Cymeria Robshaw of Penquis.
All-Academic honorees include Kilee Lewis, Peach, Cidney Pratt, Ashley Reynolds and Webber of Dexter, PCHS’ Danika Hill and Durant.
The PVC winter cheering All-Academic list of honorees include Autumn Nickerson and Jasmine Woodard of Dexter and Penquis’ Faith Simmons.
For PVC girls swimming, Jenna Clukey of Foxcroft was a First Team selection in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly.
The Ponies’ Jillian Annis, Erika Chadbourne and Emily Sprecher were each named to the All-Academic Team.
Wrestling First Team picks for the PVC include Marcus Caudill of Foxcroft at 126 pounds, Foxcroft’s R.J. Nelson at 132 pounds, Jacob Hesseltine of Dexter at 160 pounds and Elijah Ames of Foxcroft at 170 pounds.
Second Team wrestlers are Enrico Ayla of Foxcroft at 106 pounds, Caleb Weeks of Dexter at 113 pounds, Dustin Simmons of Foxcroft at 152 pounds, Zac Wilson of PCHS at 160 pounds, Augustus Irwin of Dexter at 182 pounds, Billy Brock of Foxcroft at 195 pounds and Matt Storer of Foxcroft at 285 pounds.
Receiving honorable mention was Brandon Weston of Foxcroft at 113 pounds, Gabriel Stone of Dexter at 132 pounds, Reggie Johnston of Foxcroft at 220 pounds and Tanner Hall of Dexter at 285 pounds.
Hesseltine was also named to the PVC All-Academic Team.
