Northern Light Health joins national Clean Energy Academy
BREWER — Northern Light Health announced that it has been accepted into the America Is All In Clean Energy Academy, led by the Rocky Mountain Institute, as it seeks to halve its emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Northern Light committed to the Health Sector Pledge and recently completed a Climate Resiliency Plan to address operational risks and vulnerabilities related to extreme weather events and the changing disease burden. As one of only 20 organizations accepted to the academy, Northern Light Health will continue to provide excellent care to the people of Maine, while gaining access to the resources to do so in a sustainable manner.
“We are excited to explore the many opportunities of the Inflation Recovery Act to offset our organization’s clean energy investments and catalyze new initiatives,” said Tim Doak, chief environmental sustainability officer. “The Clean Energy Academy program will be crucial in helping us capitalize on federal funding opportunities for projects that will make a positive difference in our decarbonization program.”
The Clean Energy Academy is helping organizations pursue the unprecedented funding from the Inflation Reduction Act — the largest investment in clean energy in U.S. history — for communities across the country to create good paying jobs and improve air quality while building safer, healthier, and more resilient places to live. Tax-exempt organizations like Northern Light Health now have more financial support and incentives available to them to adopt clean energy technologies for cleaner air, healthier communities, and higher energy savings. This includes being able to take advantage of Direct Pay, a new tax benefit that is now available to government entities, nonprofits, and other tax-exempt organizations. Our acceptance into the Clean Energy Academy will help ensure that we’re taking advantage of this historic opportunity to accelerate the clean energy transition and bring benefits to our community.
