Guilford will host Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall

GUILFORD — The town of Guilford is honored to announce that it will be hosting the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall, a poignant and powerful tribute to the brave men and women who served in the Vietnam War.

The Wall will be on display at the Guilford athletic fields at 59 Water Street starting with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2. Folks may visit the wall daily, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from July 3-5. The Wall will be open Saturday, July 6 from 9 a.m. through sunset, when there will be a closing ceremony. The town is eagerly looking forward to welcoming visitors from near and far to pay their respects.

The Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought in one of the most significant conflicts in our nation’s history. Guilford is proud to be able to provide a space for reflection and remembrance, and to show our deep appreciation for the service and dedication of our veterans.

REMEMBERING THOSE WHO MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE — The town of Guilford will be hosting the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall at the athletic fields from July 3-5 with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2. In the spring of 2017 Shirley B. Carter VFW Post 4298 worked to bring The Moving Wall to Bud Ellms Field in Dexter.

“We are truly honored to host the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall,” said Johanna Turner, town manager. “This is a meaningful opportunity for our community to come together, pay tribute to the heroes of the Vietnam War, and express our gratitude for their courage and sacrifice. We extend a warm welcome to all who wish to visit and experience this moving memorial.”

Guilford Selectperson Paul Zimmerman added that, “This cause is near and dear to my heart, we do a lot for veterans as part of my business at The Red Maple. When I learned about the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall I knew we had to have it come to Guilford. I was very excited that we were able to have it come this summer, and over the Independence Day holiday, no less. It’s a great thing for the veterans and our community.”

The town of Guilford invites everyone to join us in commemorating the legacy of our Vietnam veterans and honoring their enduring impact on our nation. This is a unique opportunity for individuals to come together and reflect on the profound significance of this chapter in our history.
