Free pop-up markets to distribute produce in the region
Northern Light Mayo and CA Dean Hospitals, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Piscataquis County, and Highland Area Gleaners announce seven free produce pop-up markets in Dover-Foxcroft, Milo, and Greenville.
The markets will take place throughout the summer:

Thursday, Aug. 15 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, 897 West Main street in Dover-Foxcroft.
Thursday, Sept. 12 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Northern Light Health Center, 135 Park Street in Milo.
Wednesday, Oct. 16 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bartley’s Center Cove Events, 241 Pritham Avenue in Greenville.
Thursday, Nov. 21 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, 897 West Main street in Dover-Foxcroft.
According to the Maine Shared Community Health Needs Assessment, nearly 17 percent of residents and 25 percent of youth in the region are food insecure. While individuals experiencing food insecurity are encouraged to attend, the market is open to anyone who would like fresh fruits and vegetables.
“These events build upon two highly successful markets that were held at Mayo Hospital in 2023. Based on the response to those events, it’s clear that there’s a high demand for fresh, healthy food. People who are on the go will find this to be a quick, convenient way to add some fresh produce to the dinner table,” says Kate Fergola, healthy eating active living coordinator at Mayo Hospital.
Attendees are asked to bring reusable bags to put their produce in, if available.
Food for the pop-up produce market is provided by the Piscataquis Regional Food Center.
