Richard Evans, MD of Dover-Foxcroft who is running for State Senate, District 4 spoke to the attendees. Dr. Evans noted that he had devoted his life to serving the country as a colonel in the US Air Force and to serving his community as a dedicated surgeon. He pledged to provide leadership, working across party lines to develop coalitions, to ensure that Mainers can live, work, and raise a family, in Piscataquis County. Currently, all of Piscataquis County is represented in the Senate by Sen. Stacey Guerin, R-Glenburn who resides in Penobscot County.
Also speaking to the attendees at the annual event was Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash; Julian Rogers, vice president of the Maine Democratic Party; and Lou Siddell of Guilford running for House District 30. Focusing on the themes of integrity and humanity, each speaker addressed issues that confront residents of Piscataquis County such as economic development, jobs, infrastructure (roads and bridges), health care and child care and the legislative actions in Maine and nationally that Democrats have supported and implemented.
The County Democrats also saluted retiring Chair Margarita Contreni of Greenville for her many years of service to the County committee.
The Maine Democratic Party will be holding its State Convention at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, May 31 and June 1. For more information about the Piscataquis County committee and upcoming events, please check their Facebook page: Piscataquis County Democrats.
