Guinness confirms world record for longest line of whoopie pies
Guinness Book of World Records confirmed that the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, Portland Sea Dogs, and Wicked Whoopies achieved the longest line of whoopie pies on June 9, 2023 in Portland. The event was organized in front of Hadlock Field and included 2,121 whoopie pies provided by Wicked Whoopies. This feat marked the first whoopie pie-related record to be acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records.
“We know that Maine put Whoopie Pies on the map and now, for the first time, Maine has put whoopie pies in the Guinness Book of World Records,” said Patrick Myers, executive director of the Center Theatre and an organizer of the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival.
The record-setting attempt was a collaboration between the festival, Sea Dogs, and Wicked Whoopies. Wicked Whoopies baked and individually wrapped the 2,121 whoopie pies used in the attempt and the Sea Dogs hosted the effort outside Hadlock Field while their alter-ego, The Maine Whoopie Pies, took the field against the Akron RubberDucks. The Sea Dogs will return as the Whoopie Pies this season on June 7 against Akron at Hadlock Field. The attempt was made on June 9, 2023 and after reviewing all the evidence that was submitted, Guinness certified the record this spring.
The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival will take place on June 22 this year in downtown Dover-Foxcroft where a celebration of the Guinness Record will take place. The festival is the largest annual fundraiser for the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts and supports its mission to engage and inspire by making art, education, and entertainment accessible to our rural communities.
