PCHS wrestling finishes eighth at Class B championship

RUMFORD — The Piscataquis Community High School wrestling team finished the day with a score of 53 points to place eighth among 25 schools at the 2024 Class B championship at Mountain Valley High School on Saturday, Feb. 17.

A pair of Pirates reached the championship finals. At 175 pounds Dominic Cookson reached the final match, falling 6-0 to Jakobi Hagar of Lincoln Academy of Newcastle. In the 285-pound finals, Wyatt Weaver of Bucksport High School earned a 3-1 sudden victory over Beau Talbot.

PCHS’ Dominic Zeller finished third at 157 points. In the consolation finals he edged Shamus Pease of Medomak Valley High School of Waldoboro via a 6-4 score.

Karson Tibbetts reached the 138-pound consolidation finals, falling 7-6 to Josiah Miller of Mount View High School of Thorndike.

Dexter Regional High School finished 16th at the state championship with a score of 21 points.

Tanner Ladd led the Tigers by coming in fourth at 190 pounds. In the weight class consolation finals, he fell by pinfall at the 29-second mark to Ian Friend of Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

Foxcroft Academy was 20th on Saturday with a score of 12 points.

Nicholas McMillen reached the podium with his fourth-place performance at 106 pounds. In the consolidation finals he was defeated by pinfall at 2:51 vs. Austin White-Ortiz of Oceanside High School of Rockland.
