Day 1 dictatorship

To the Editor;

There isn’t a lot that leaves me speechless, but this did, and it took me a couple days to even comprehend that Donald Trump really said it. In our history thousands and thousands of lives have been lost, and terrible injuries sustained while fighting for America. Clearly ignorant of history, Donald Trump says he’d encourage Putin to attack our allies over his perceived lack of financial equity. Just imagine it. Then he said, “Do whatever the hell they want.” Like the war crimes in Ukraine? Rape? Attacking hospitals? Murder? Kidnapping? But what do we expect from a guy who promised retribution and retaliation if he’s elected. A dictatorship on Day 1.

Soldiers in NATO countries stood shoulder to shoulder with Americans. Does it even make sense that another president would call him “Sir”? No. But he’s used that before to puff up his own self-importance. Then, behind him, the crowd cheered. They cheered for a brutal dictator to invade a democracy.

So why would Putin negotiate peace in Ukraine? He knows he can just wait for the election and see if his puppet is reelected. Same for Xi regarding Taiwan. Or any other strongman leader. This guy doesn’t understand that people would fight and die to protect their country. He called them suckers and losers while at Arlington Cemetery.

Most of us have relatives who have served to protect our country. Is there one single Trump that can say that?
